モンス・デジデリオ　Monsu Desiderio



１．画家紹介
　　　　　　 モンス・デジデリオ（Monsu Desiderio)は、今世紀になって発見され復権した画家である。　1924年にフランス人ルイ・ドゥモンが、1935年にやはりフランス人のルイ・レオーがこの画家に関するエッセーを発表し、その存在を提起した。　
さらに1950年には二つの展覧会が開かれ、1957年に刊行された二冊の書物がこの画家の存在を際立たせた。
ひとつは、アンドレ・ブルトンの「魔術的芸術」。ブルトンはこの書物の中で決定的に忘れ去られた画家としてその復権を訴えている。　ブルトンは「魔術的芸術」の概念により独自に再編成した美術史の中にこの画家を、シュルレアリスムの先駆者と評価している。　もうひとつは、ドイツのグスタフ・ルネ・ホッケの「迷宮としての世界」で、ティントレットおよびグレコ以後のヨーロッパ絵画における最後の偉大なマニエリストとしてとらえている。

以上の二冊の書物が共通して依拠しているのは、ベルギーの美術史研究家フェリックス・スリュイの論文で、この人は1950年代に発表した論文を敷衍して、1961年に「モンス・デジデリオ」と題する書物を刊行した。　同年にモンス・デジデリオを採り上げたマルセル・ブリヨンの「幻想芸術」が刊行されが、やはりスリュイの論文によっている。

モンス・デジデリオ（Monsu Desiderio）とは、風景画と遠近法で有名であった画家フランソワ・ド・ノメ（Francois de Nome　1593年 - 1620 年以降）、および幻想建築の画家ディディエ・バラ（Didier Barra）の共同ペンネームで、二人はともに16 世紀にイタリア　ロレーヌ地方メスで生まれ、17 世紀はじめにナポリで活躍した。

その作品は、古代ローマ、旧約聖書、新約聖書、ナポリ、ヴェネツィア、メスから霊感を得た「荒廃」「（自然の）大変動」「不思議な建物」が特色であるが、その特異なスタイルが、次世代のイタリア風景画家（ヴェドゥータ Veduta。展望風景画）に影響を及ぼすことはなかった。　しかし、文明の残骸の中の悪夢のような荒廃した描写は、サルヴァトル・ローザ、ミケランジェロ・チェルクオッツィ（Michelangelo Cerquozzi）といった画家たちや、ジョヴァンニ・バッティスタ・ピラネージの「cappricci」（奇抜で幻想的な記念碑、残骸、建物）にテーマ的に使われている。

モンス・デジデリオの名で伝えられている作品は２５４点と数えられている。　このうちフランソワ・ド・ノメが描いたもの１４８点、ディディエ・バラが描いたもの２４点、模倣者か追随者かの手になるもの、グループ制作によるもの８２点と云われている。
現在、これらの作品の所在は、ヨーロッパ、北米、イスラエル、ほか１８ヶ国に亘っている。（うち、６１点は所在不明）
