2.2 版画

ゴヤは一枚の版画に, エッチング、アクアティント、ドライポイント、ビュラン、バーニッシャー、ビュラン、などの複数の技法を駆使して制作している。

各版画に添えられたスペイン語で書かれた文章は、Thames and Hudson社版「GOYA His complete etchings, aquatints and lithographs」にあるRaymond Rudorff による英語訳を転載した。

2.2.1 カプリーチョス   Los Caprichos


全 80 点 + 追加 4 点
1799年制作。  29.5 x 20.2 cm の紙に 大凡 21.9 x 15.2 cm前後 の版。

1799年2月6日付け『マドリード日報』の記事(広告文):

人間の不正や悪徳を批判するのは、弁論や思想に固有の領域と考えられる。 だが同時に、絵画の対象にもなりえるのだと確信し、作者(ゴヤ)はその信念のもとにテーマを選んだ。 つまり、社会に共通にして見られる常軌を逸した愚行、無知蒙昧のゆえに認められている偏見や虚偽のなかから嘲笑の材料になりやすく、また作者の幻想を働かせたものが選ばれている。

2.2.2 戦争の惨禍 Los Desastres de la Guerra

1810〜20年に制作。 24.5 x 34.5 cm の紙に、 14.0〜17.5 x 17.0〜25.5 cm の版。
なお、本連作版画集はゴヤ生前には出版されていない。

2.2.3 妄  Los Disparates                 

全 22 点
1815〜1824年に制作。 38 x 56 cm 及び 30.6 x 43.8 cm の紙に、24.4 x 35.5 cm の版。
ゴヤの死後出版された未完の連作版画集。
内容的には「カプリ-チョス」にも見られるように、人間の愚かさ(folly)を風刺的に描いたものだが、個々の作品についての正確な解釈は、今となっては困難と云われている。

2.2.4 闘牛技  La Tauromaquia

全 40 点 + 追加 4 点
1815〜16年制作。  27.8 x 43.5 cm の紙に、23 x 15 cm の版。
ゴヤ自身の言葉によると、この版画集は「スペインにおける闘牛の発生から発展および現状を概観するもの」である。 版画集の1番から14番の内容は、闘牛の歴 史をたどっている。 イスラムがスペインを支配していた時代の闘牛に始まり、歴史上の人物の闘牛の様子や、古来から伝わる闘牛の技が描かれる。 15番以 降にはゴヤの同時代の名闘牛士たちの、伝説的な名場面の数々が描かれている。 ゴヤはこの版画集のために44枚の銅版画を用意したが、いくつかの版は 仕上がりがよくなかったために作者自身の手で削除され、初版では33枚の作品集として出版された。 しかし、後にフランスの出版業者がその銅板を入手 し、40枚組の「闘牛技」がパリで出版された。
用意されながら当初の版画集に掲載されなかった4枚を 末尾に追加掲載する。
